Three museum hosts wanted for Murberget Open-Air Museum

Murberget Open-Air Museum in Härnösand is part of Västernorrland Museum. The area consists of around 60 cultural-historical buildings and environments, ranging from Fäbodvallen to the Manor environment. In this way, the open-air museum serves as both a pedagogical arena for cultural heritage and sustainability.

The museum area with the museum building and open-air museum is a popular destination in Härnösand. During the summer, various programs and events attract a large audience, both tourists and local residents. There are experiences for everyone, especially for children and families: in crafts and handicrafts, animals and gardening, and cultural history.

This year, the open-air museum will be open to the public daily from June 16 to August 17, and we are now looking for museum hosts for this period. The task during the summer season is to spread knowledge about the cultural heritage of Västernorrland - its customs, crafts, and building traditions. We are looking for someone with an interest and knowledge of cultural history, life, and living environments.

Job Responsibilities

Your main task as a museum host is to carry out the daily summer activities at the open-air museum, focusing on public activities related to crafts, handicrafts, building preservation, and gardening.

You will conduct tours and public activities. You will also participate in both large and small events with preparations and execution. The role also includes some care of animals, gardens, and the area as a whole.

You will be part of a smaller team with a rotating schedule. Everyone in the team shares a common responsibility to manage the daily work in such a way that visitors feel welcomed and have a pleasant museum experience.

We are looking for 3 museum hosts with the following qualifications:

· work experience of 1 year or post-secondary education in crafts/handicrafts or gardening.

· good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, as well as the ability to guide in English.

· Some form of pedagogical experience or experience in acting.

Preferred qualifications for the position:

· academic education in cultural historical subjects.

· experience in holding workshops, courses, tours, and public activities in relevant areas.

· Experience and interest in animals and animal care.

Personal qualities

You enjoy an outgoing role and like meeting people, speaking in front of groups, and teaching. You have a good ability to convey experiences and knowledge to both children and adults. Personal suitability is highly valued.

Additional Information

Employment type: Seasonal employment from 2025-06-09 to 2026-08-17. Employment rate approximately 75%. The employment begins with three mandatory introductory days.

In total, there are three part-time positions available, and we are looking for someone who can work the entire period according to the schedule. Working hours are during the day according to a rotating schedule, with duties on both weekdays and weekends. The operation is open seven days a week.
